Time changes everything

Ok....For some reason I am not able to get on here about once a year!  Oh, how much has changed in a year!  It was good, bad, and ugly...

So, let me start with the good!  Gary and I bought a house!!!!  I know what you're thinking...

"I thought you two were going to build a tiny house?!"
"What happened to moving to Washington DC?!"
"Where did you buy a house?"
"Wait a minute...I'm confused!"

Yeah...things happen for a reason, I firmly believe this.  This past year has certainly shown me that.

We bought Granny Judy's (Gary's paternal grandmother) home!  We had weighed our options and decided that as of now, staying in good ol' Surry County was the best choice for us.  We started looking heavily at homes again earlier last year and had decided to take a condo downtown Mt. Airy, but the night before, fate intervened.  I had stepped out to grab Gary and I something for supper, when I got back he said he had received a message from Granny Judy.  She was selling her home and wondered if we would be interested in purchasing it.  Of course this threw us for a loop.  So instead of telling the owner of the condo that we would take it, we decided to at least talk it over with Judy.  We met with her the following Tuesday and you know how things just feel right? Well, that is exactly what happened.  Of course we talked about it for about a week, making pro/con lists, weighing the expenses of each, and looking at resale ease (if that ever became an issue).  The house won!  So now we own a three bedroom, 1.5 bath brick ranch with about an acre of land!  Who would have thought!

Looking back I am so glad that we went with the house, because a month before the purchase was finalized my mother-in-law Cheryl passed away.  This is probably one of the hardest things I have had to experience, beside my grandparents deaths.  She had been sick for sometime, she spent the entire month of June in the hospital, and was in and out from that point on.  I ached watching Gary and his family say goodbye to their precious mother, sister, and friend. Her house was the one that we spent the holidays at, now our home is that place.  It is certainly not the same by far, however, I'm certainly glad that we have the space to do it.  Our first Thanksgiving and Christmas in the home was bitter-sweet.  It was wonderful knowing that this house was ours to share, but at the same time we didn't have Cheryl there to celebrate our wonderful time.  There have been a lot tears shed since the last post.

Rebecka, my sister-in-law had a sweet little boy Colton Robert Tate last month.  He was a surprise that we found out about just before Cheryl passed.  She was so excited about him.  The initial shock of her pregnancy and the situation was hard for a lot of people to swallow, but she seems to love being a mother and you can just see the love in her eyes.

We lost another family member in 2016.  My Aunt Donna passed about three weeks after I published "And the world just exploded".  As I stood back and watched my cousin Brian going through the loss of a parent, I could not help but fear for what was held in my future.  I know that just like him, I am an only child and will have to face the same dark reality that he did at some point.  Until that day gets here we will cherish our time together.

Alisha and her little family are doing great!  Braxton is a healthy little boy that is having his first birthday party this weekend!  Yay!!

Now to my parents, things seem to be on the mend.  Which is good.

I will end on a happy note!  We took a cruise last year in October!  Gary and I visited four different countries!!  We stayed in Miami, FL for a night, traveled to the Grand Cayman, Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel Mexico!  We tried all sorts of new foods, met some great people, zip lined through the jungle, cave tubbing, and made memories.  Cannot wait for our next adventure!

Just remember, life is short.  Eat that piece of cake, take that trip, tell them you love them, and make memories.  Eventually that's all that is left. 💕
