"Oh you'll change your mind"
An interesting morning at work...
There were 40 kindergarten students inside the bank for a field trip. Yes you heard correctly, FORTY, five to six year old children! This did one thing for me, solidified the fact that I do not want children. I seriously almost had a panic attack when I saw all of them. Some women are wired for having kids, I am not one of those women.
Speaking of women having children, why is it that society expects us to get married and have children? My husband and I have made the decision to not have any. Over the years I have been told that I am selfish or I will change my mind when I get older. I honestly do not see it a selfish act that I do not want to bring a child into this messed up world. Or that I just don't have the "mommy gene" that people talk about. The older I get the less I want them.
Our belief is that not everyone is made to be a mother or father, we are those people, at least we recognize that. We aren't having kids that we can't afford or take care of. Quite frankly it is pretty responsible of us! My dream as a child was to get married to my soul mate and travel the world. The marriage portion we got right! Haven't gotten the traveling the world thing down yet, hopefully soon we have that taken care of. Okay maybe not the world, but at least a little more cultured and outside of comfort zones that keep us sheltered from the outside world.
Just because I am a female, it should not mean that my main goal is to procreate. To the mothers reading this more power to you!!! You were meant for the roll You knew that's what you wanted. I truly do not understand how you do it everyday. I am good to get myself dressed and out the door on time for work and I'm usually late. I am still trying to figure out my path in life.
So please if someone tells you that they don't want kids, try to understand their perspective. Get to know why they don't. They are not judging you for having them (well some might), so don't jump to conclusions with their choices.
