Not for the faint of heart...
So over the past month or so there has been a massive debate going on about this new Amendment One, that was officially voted into place as of yesterday. I am appalled that at the fact that this was even considered.
I am trying to figure out how people believe that it is right to strip someone of their right to love. Have a family. Have companionship. Provide for for a child and their family. How can you justify this you ask??
Well, many are stating that since the Bible says that it is wrong for two people of the same sex to marry. This was the primary basis for a lot of voters. Stating that it is "unnatural" or "a sin" and even heard "an abomination of God."
So be it.....
However, your Bible also states that if you judge your fellow man that you shall be judged before God. It also states an eye for an eye. So what rights were taken away from gay couples and domestic partners (including man/woman) should also be taken away from all married couples.
You can preach all you want about what your Bible says and what your preacher drills into your head each Sunday, or whenever you go to church, I will always stand behind equality, gay rights, and the right to freedom. By the passing of this law shows how closed minded people really are.
I truly believe that no one was looking at the consequences of this and only looking that "gay marriage". This is going to have catastrophic effects. I have a friend that was married to a very abusive man. This may invalidate any restraining order she has against him. This could mean that many of my friends may loose their children. Many children and elderly may loose health benefits. How could this be what God wanted?? How is this morally right?? How do justify stripping someone of their rights because your religion said it was wrong.
Here is something to think about. People are always asking me where I attend church or why I don't attend. If this is what people are like in church, leave me out of it. I want no part of being judgmental, hateful, and close minded. Most people that are religious are the most judgmental, the most close minded and the hardest people to get along with. I said most....not all. I just wish everyone could see that religion is not the answer here, it is about being equal, about love and treating each other how you would want to be treated. You wouldn't like it if someone came into your life and took away your rights.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you. People can have whatever religion they want, but to let a certain religion dictate how a whole state or country will run? There is not just one religion or belief system. There are many. Which is a perfectly good reason why church and state should be separated. I don't see how any religion would be for stripping away human rights. It's funny how people can dig through the Bible and pick out a verse that they think means that they should literally interpret it as it's ok to judge or to discriminate against another group. What happened to the 10 comandments? You know, the ones that everybody are so familiar with? To love one another as we love ourself. There are no stipulations on that. I have read through comments and issues from both sides of this amendment. When you get into the FOR group, it get ridiculous. Throwing the Bible here and there. And when it comes down to it, they really aren't making any sense at all. So it makes me think that they really do not know what they are talking about. So that 39% have made the decision for all. I just shutter to think what will happen now. The day after the passing of this amendment politicians are already taking advantage of it and taking away benefits.
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you something else that has gotten on my nerves too.... Sorry.....The people that are posting comments like "It's over now so stop whinning" or "get over it". Well excuse me. Isn't it nice that you don't give a damn about humanity? Just you wait until this affects you directly. I'm sorry, but I will stand up for what I believe in whether it is for me or for others. I don't want to be one of those people who sit back and watch everybody suffer. When those people are finished suffering and gone who will be left to suffer next? Those people who didn't speak up, but they won't have any help from anyone.
Ok, I think I'll get off of my soap box now.
